Not At All What We Were Expecting
In general: In a last minute, unplanned stay in the area, found this place at Booking.com and thought, "A stay at a farm would be different, might be fun/romantic. Price is right. Okay, let's do it." Well, it was different, for sure, but in a sketchy way. Arrived at a messy property filled with all kinds of stuff/junk and were "greeted" by angry geese. Nora lets us in, shows us the rooms and provides a lengthy procedure about how to use the bathtub, which is on a funky pump system that doesn't draw hot water like any normal system. Then Nora starts talking non-stop about her life story. Gets very descriptive about personal things we don't want to hear, but we politely listen for way too long until we excuse ourselves because we were actually meeting up with family. It wasn't until we return in the evening that we notice the true condition of the rooms: dirty/dusty; unfinished amateur bathroom renovation, including a toilet that's not bolted down; warm and stuffy. We had been told not to open windows, but we have fans that do little more than keep the flies off us. Before bed I spend 20 minutes cleaning goose poop off my shoes. In the morning, we are awakened much too early by some awful animal sounds outside. Before I get up and look out the filthy window, I never guessed it could've been a cow. But that's what it was. It was a rather sick sounding cow. Get dressed without using the bathtub or separate shower. They just don't seem clean enough. Go out to the breakfast area and Nora's already cooking in the kitchen. Say "hi" to her and she asks what all we want for the extra $5/person we paid for breakfast. Then she asks me to give her a hand in the kitchen, which surprises me, but I agree because she had said the day before her eyesight and mobility weren't so good. But after getting a good look around the kitchen and adjoining living space, I wish we were not eating there. Lots and lots of stuff/junk piled up and very full fly paper strips hanging from the ceiling. Gag. The breakfast was big and very good, but I honestly can't say much else positive about this experience. Felt a bit sad for Nora because it seems she needs help keeping up the place. She has acquired way too much stuff that fills her house, but you will have to stay there yourself and hear her interesting stories about where the stuff came from. I'm not saying any more... Location and surroundings: Sketchy, junk-filled property. Geese...and much goose poop. Service: Proprietor obviously enjoys serving. And she'll talk on and on about her very personal life stories. Dining: Don't. Room: Rooms are large and seem quite luxurious from photos, but are not properly cleaned, and our bathroom was an unfinished amateur renovation. Warm and stuffy (no AC). Useful tips: Do not stay here.
